1 taken into custody during FBI raid in Cherry Hill

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (WPVI) -- The FBI took one man into custody on Monday in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, while serving a warrant.

An FBI spokesperson says there is no threat to the public, calling the activity "a court-authorized law enforcement operation."

Neighbors are left with a lot of questions.

"All of a sudden, police everywhere and FBI everywhere. We've been watching since quarter after 9 this morning," said neighbor Chris Ward.

Over a loudspeaker, the following could be heard: "This is the FBI. We have a warrant. For your safety, come out of the front door with your hands up."

At some point after, there was a loud bang followed by smoke.

Officers had guns drawn as a man came out of the home with his hands raised.

Chopper 6 was overhead as he was put into cuffs and then into the back of a vehicle.

Bert Trama, who lives next door, tried to see what was happening.

"I came around here and they were like, 'Get back inside, get inside!'" he said.

Trama and his wife say the man lived there for years.

They were stunned when he was taken by authorities.

"I'm thinking, 'What the heck did this guy do?' I don't understand because he's a nice guy," said Trama.

This happened just down the street from Horace Mann Elementary School, which was placed into a lockout as a precaution.

By the afternoon, agents continued to go in and out of the house and went through several vehicles parked outside the home.

Neighbors say it was an unsettling afternoon and are glad the standoff is over.

"There was like armored tanks and big huge SUVs and vehicles, so it was a big time sting it seemed like," said neighbor Katie Porter.

The FBI is calling the situation "fluid" and not releasing many details, including the name of the person taken into custody or information about any possible charges.

Cherry Hill Police assisted with the operation and referred all questions to the FBI.
