PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Eagles left tackle and Super Bowl champion Jordan Mailata and his wife, Niki, have launched a new family foundation aimed at helping middle and high school students pursue their ambitions.
The couple said the mission is rooted in expanding access for young people who may not otherwise have it.
"Our motto for the foundation is that talent is everywhere. Opportunity is not. So our hope is to help provide more opportunity," Niki said.
The Mailata Family Foundation will focus on students in grades 8 through 11, supporting a wide range of interests beyond athletics.
"It's not just about sports. If you want to go after singing and dance, if you want to be a lawyer and go after your further education, culinary school and be a chef, these are the things that we want to see we want to hear about," Jordan said.
To kick off the launch, the Mailatas are hosting a fundraiser concert on Thursday, June 11, at Stateside! Live.
Jordan said the event will feature several of his teammates.
"I actually forgot about my teammates that I put to work; Saquon, Cooper DeJean, Lane, Zach Baun, Jordan Davis, Landon Dickerson," he said.
Mailata, known for breaking into song as easily as he breaks through defensive lines, said he has been practicing singing in the car between workouts. The concert will also include performances by local bands.
