REHBOTH, Mass. -- The body of a missing pregnant 18-year-old was found at the property of her ex-boyfriend's family, officials said.
The human remains of Kylee Monteiro were found Tuesday evening, and her boyfriend, Gregory Groom, 22, will now face murder charges, the Bristol County District Attorney's Office said.
Monteiro, who was 12 weeks pregnant, had been missing since Aug. 7 and was last seen in Rehoboth, Massachusetts.
Her family members say she got into an argument with her boyfriend before she went missing, and that she told them she was in fear for her safety.
"Ms. Monteiro texted her sister, 'He threw me on the ground, pulled my hair, and strangled me. My phone is on 4%, if I die it was Greg.' Family members tried to then communicate with Ms. Monteiro and get her to a place of safety. And she didn't respond right away,"
prosecutor Jason Mohan said in court.
Groom was arrested the same day she was found and was charged with aggravated assault and battery, domestic assault and battery and intimidation of a witness, Bristol District Attorney Thomas Quinn said.
Police said Groom assaulted Monteiro on Aug. 6, the day before she was last seen.
The 22-year-old allegedly confessed to stabbing Monteiro and later burying her body.
Neither of the families spoke outside of court on Wednesday.
"Certainly is a very difficult time for them," Quinn said. "Extend my sympathies to them and ask them to be patient with the process despite the trauma they are experiencing now."
Police have not confirmed what the tip was that brought them back to the wooded area or what was in the evidence bags.
"She was so loving and caring and I love her so much," a friend of Monteiro's said. "Kylee will always be remembered and always be loved."
