PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Eleven days and more than 100 films.
The 34th Philadelphia Film Festival is gearing up to bring the most critically acclaimed movies from around the globe right here to the city.
We have the first look at the films on tap, the stars coming to town and the likely Oscar contenders about to make their all Philadelphia premieres.
"We look for the best films from around the world, and we bring them here to Philly," says J. Andrew Greenblatt, the CEO and Executive Director of the Philadelphia Film Society.
"We're kicking it off in a really fun way. We're opening with 'WAKE UP DEAD MAN: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY,' which is the third in series. Rian Johnson, the writer and director, will be back with us for the third time. It's great. He's come in for both other films, and so he'll be there opening night. We will have a nice little party right after that to celebrate the film, celebrate the festival and celebrate Rian."
Last year was the most attended festival ever with over 30,000 attendees at the festival's three venues across the city.
Expect stars and filmmakers in town once again for Q & A sessions at the screenings. And, as always, there's tons of Philly star power on tap.
"Two of the biggest films, two of our centerpieces, have significant Philly ties," says Greenblatt. "We've got Bradley Cooper's new film, directed by Bradley Cooper, called, 'Is This Thing On?'
And then we have another film called "Eternity,' which stars Miles Teller. Big Philly ties, and we're thrilled to bring them here first."
'Eternity' also stars Oscar winner, Mount Airy native and Temple University alumna Da'Vine Joy Randolph.
The festival is also hosting special event screenings of the finale of HBO's 'TASK,' and Amazon Prime's highly anticipated three-part docuseries 'ALLEN IV3RSON.'
