MAGNOLIA, N.J. (WPVI) -- A Camden County couple has made it to the Top 10 in Variety Magazine's "America's Favorite Couple" contest.
Karen and Scott Johnson have an incredible "lost and found" love story that goes back 40 years.
"It was definitely meant to be," says Karen Johnson.
Forty years after they first fell in love, Karen and Scott Johnson finally found each other.
"Like two grains of sand in a desert," says Scott, "and we're going to stick together forever."
The two were high school sweethearts in the 80s.
"If it's possible for the stars to align when you're in your teenage years, they did," he says. "So we ended up going to her prom and we were dating and going out. Then she went to my prom."
But in 1985, Karen's family moved from their native Long Island here to Camden County, leaving Scott and their puppy love behind.
"I still remember the afternoon that I went to her house to say goodbye to her," he says. "We cried and cried," she adds. "It was a very sad moment."
Decades passed, and both Scott and Karen got married and had kids.
And later, they both found themselves single again.
Karen never stopped looking for him.
"Do you know how many Scott Johnsons there are in this world?" she laughs.
Then, two years ago, Scott's sister found Karen on Facebook.
"Three months later, I moved up here and we got married in the Bahamas on March 4," he says.
"We've got the same anniversary date, 41 years apart to the day from our first meeting," she adds.
If they win the $20,000 prize as America's Favorite Couple, Scott and Karen plan to make up for lost time.
"We missed out on so much of each other's lives," Karen says. "There are 40 years that we didn't get to spend with each other, experiences that we missed out on together. We're kind of trying to recapture some of that."
Right now, Scott and Karen are in 1st place.
Voting for the Top 5 ends this Thursday at 7 pm.
