Man hospitalized following officer-involved shooting in Kensington

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police are investigating a shooting involving an officer, that may have started over an argument about milk.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. Saturday on the 2800 block of D Street in Kensington.

Police say it started as a fight at a corner store that escalated.

Someone flagged down an officer, who spotted the suspect running away.

The officer ran after that suspect, and the two started fighting.

That's when the officer noticed the suspect had a gun on him.

When the suspect allegedly raised the gun, the officer opened fire, striking him in the wrist and chest.

"We're grateful for no one having lost their life in a situation like this one. But we do recognized that this is a neighborhood that is challenging, and although we have done a lot of work and trying to stabilize the community and trying to restore the quality of life in the community, we still recognize that we have work to do," says Quetcy Lozada of Philadelphia City Council.

The suspect is in stable condition and will face charges.

The officer was not hurt.

Body camera video is being reviewed.
