PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are searching for a suspect who shot a man and an innocent bystander in West Philadelphia.

The shooting happened around 6 p.m. Tuesday during an altercation between the suspect and a 35-year-old man at a beer distributor at 43rd and Market streets, police said.

Surveillance video shows the suspect following the man outside the business before gunfire erupted, according to Chief Inspector Scott Small. The 35-year-old was shot at least once in the torso and is hospitalized in critical condition.

A 65-year-old woman standing nearby on the sidewalk was struck by stray gunfire, police said. She was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Investigators recovered about 13 shell casings at the scene.

Further details on what led to the shooting have not been released.

Police said the shooter appears to be a man who was last seen wearing a red shirt or hooded sweatshirt and with a tan jacket covering that red shirt and dark colored pants. He was last seen fleeing on foot south on 43rd Street from Market Street.

Anyone with information is asked to call 215-686-TIPS.
