Missing girl found in Chicago suburb with men in country illegally

CHICAGO -- A 13-year-old girl who was reported missing in New York was found in a Chicago suburb, the U.S. Marshals said.

The girl was reported missing in Rochester, New York, on Sept. 11. Police said video shows she left her family's home and met up with three people.

Police said she was seen getting into a light-colored SUV near the home.

On Sept. 20, the girl was found at an apartment complex, nearly 600 miles away, in Blue Island, Ilinois.

She was with an 18-year-old man and his father, U.S. Marshals said.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement said both men were in the U.S. illegally.

"There was another minor girl in the apartment," U.S Marshal Western District Of New York Charles Salina said. "I don't know all the specifics. whether she was reported missing. but we know she wasn't related to the family."

Salina said social media played into the case.

"The United States Marshals Service worked tirelessly to recover this endangered child from the predators who should have never been in this country to take her from the safety of her family and home. Our children deserve safe cities!" said U.S. Marshals Service Director Gadyaces S. Serralta.

The investigation is in the hands of the U.S. Attorney's Office.

The men, who are in the country illegally, are being held in ICE custody. Charges have not been announced.
