WOODBURY HEIGHTS, N.J. (WPVI) -- A burglary at a local steak shop and a similar break-in at a nearby convenience store are under investigation after incidents were reported overnight into Sunday morning, according to business owners and employees.
The owner of Whit or Whitout Steak Shop said the burglary occurred during the overnight hours. Dakota Flem said the suspect stole a few hundred dollars in cash, but the cost of repairs is expected to be significantly higher.
Just hours later, a Heritage's Dairy Store on Glassboro Road in Woodbury Heights was also targeted in a similar manner. Store manager Kayla Graff said the suspect was less successful in that incident.
"Our money was locked up, so they couldn't take any of that. But, we ended up finding out they took cartons of cigarettes, like only four of them, and they then just ran out," Graff said.
The same Heritage's Dairy Store location had been robbed just weeks earlier. Store employee Collin Conway described a previous robbery in which the suspect was armed.
"He took everything out of our register and our safe and then continued to make us sit down face-first on the ground by our dumpster," Conway said.
No injuries were reported in that earlier incident.
Authorities have made an arrest in connection with the most recent Heritage's Dairy Store robbery.
A separate arrest was also made in connection with the earlier robbery at the same location. It remains unclear whether the steak shop burglary and the latest dairy store break-in are connected.
The investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
