Surveillance video shows moment man critically injured in West Philadelphia hit-and-run

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A hit-and-run in West Philadelphia left the pedestrian critically injured early Thursday morning.

Police say a dark-colored Jeep Cherokee was traveling northbound on 58th Street when it struck a 32-year-old man who was attempting to cross Delancey Street around 2:45 a.m.

The Jeep Cherokee fled the scene, continuing north on 58th Street.

The impact pushed the victim several feet, scattering his belongings into the street, leaving him lying in the road, immobile.

Merry Yao rushed to her window after hearing a loud crash early in the morning.

"I don't think he may survive it because you can see that his shoes. He didn't have no shoes on when I saw him," said Yao. "He was not even moving."

The victim was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center with severe injuries, where he is listed in critical condition.

"This person had no regard for a human being's life, and that's the sad thing," another resident told Action News.

Now, the search is on for the person who was behind the wheel.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
