Philadelphia Historic District 250th Committee announces details for 52 Weeks of Firsts events

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Philadelphia Historic District 250th Committee highlighted its 52 Weeks of Firsts initiative on Thursday.

Organizers announced the details at Independence Mall.

The celebration will encompass major sporting events, alongside cultural exhibitions and community programs, that honor Philadelphia's role as the birthplace of American democracy.

It will include free public events to honor a different Philly-born "first" each week, with storytelling, art, and community festivities.

The 52 Weeks of Firsts will take place in more than a dozen neighborhoods across the city.

The initiative kicks off in January 2026.
