Philadelphia Phillies surprise U.S. Air Force veteran

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A local veteran got a surprise of a lifetime, thanks to the Philadelphia Phillies and Toyota.

Holly Beckes is an 11-year U.S. Air Force veteran who has been sharing her personal, inspirational comeback story with military members looking to get back on their feet.

On Monday, she was surprised at the Veterans Multi-Service Center in Old City, which she says helped her turn her life around after she became addicted to alcohol and drugs.

Beckes said the center also helped her find a job and get through school.

The Phillies gave Beckes a custom jersey and invited her to throw the first pitch at the Phillies Salute to Service game next Saturday, May 23.

"I can't say enough about the Veterans Multi-Service Center. They've helped save my life and I will forever be grateful for the people of the VMSC," said emotional Beckes.

As part of the surprise, Beckes got to practice throwing the first pitch with Phillies legends Mickey Morandini and Dickie Noles.
