BRISTOL TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- A 10-year-old boy is recovering after being struck in a hit-and-run crash while riding his bike just a block from his home.
Xavier Thomas of Croydon said the incident happened around noon on Sunday.
"Basically, it was a hit-and-run, and they hit me from behind, and my bike was broken into two pieces," the boy recalled.
Neighbors quickly called 911 and alerted Xavier's parents. His father, George Thomas, described the terrifying moment his wife arrived at the scene.
"My wife ran up and he was unconscious on the ground, and there were other people who came by, but the person that hit him had left," he said.
Xavier's face hit the pavement, causing significant dental injuries that will require surgery. He is being monitored for a possible concussion, but no bones were broken.
"It was fear. It was anger. It was a lot of emotion," George said of seeing his son unconscious in the roadway.
Police are now asking for the public's help in identifying the driver.
"We are going to be canvassing the area, trying to obtain that video footage," said Sgt. Jason Mancuso of the Bristol Township Police Department. "If someone does know what happened in that area, we can bring it to light to the public and hopefully get some leads."
The Thomas family is urging the driver to come forward.
"Turn yourself in and be a right person," Xavier said.
"Do the right thing. It was a mistake; you made it worse. Try to be human, that's all I can say," George added.
Investigators have not identified a suspect, nor have they released a description of the vehicle.
