We are all anxiously waiting for summer to get here and so are retailers. That makes May a great time to stock up on certain Spring items and take advantage of pre-Summer deals.

It's a great time to shop for clothes, according to Mark LoCastro, the PR Director of DealNews.

"Spring clothing deals heat up significantly in May. That's because Spring clothing has been sitting on store shelves and in inventory for about two months now. These clothing retailers want to get rid of the Spring inventory and make room for summer apparel, so they're marking these items up to 50% off."

Many spring clearance items are the same ones your kids will probably need for back-to-school, so if you find things like girls' black slacks, which we found on clearance for $5 a pair at the Walmart on Columbus Boulevard, shop up a size put them away for September.

We're also heading into barbecue season. Meat prices are on the rise, so if you find deals on hamburgers or hot dogs, stock up. They can be frozen, as can buns. Also, look for great prices and coupons for ice cream and popsicles.
And in fresh produce, shop in-season for the best prices on fruits and veggies, including asparagus, blueberries, and strawberries, which are plentiful right now.

Finally, think ahead to the beach -- now's the time to stock up on sunscreen, bathing suits, and water toys. At the Walmart, we found flip-flops in a wide variety of colors for just $.98 a pair, while supplies last. Once Memorial Day hits, the supply of these items goes down and the prices may go up.

Finally, if you haven't planned your summer vacation, now's the time. You'll find the best deals in locations that are off-peak in summer -- like ski resorts. They often cut room rates and while offering amenities like spa services, great swimming pools, and beautiful scenery.
