CAMDEN, N.J. (WPVI) -- A South Jersey man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison after admitting to killing his girlfriend and disposing of her body in an abandoned refrigerator.

Christopher Blevins, 46, was sentenced Friday. Prosecutors say he killed Laura Hughes in December 2024, then hid her body inside a refrigerator left in Belleplain State Forest in Cape May County.

Police say Blevins fled to Mexico in August before later surrendering to authorities there. He pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter in October.

Hughes was the mother of two daughters.
