Special judicial swearing-in ceremony held in Southwest Philly with Bartram High School students

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A special swearing-in ceremony was held at Bartram High School in Southwest Philadelphia.

Schnearia Ashley was sworn in by Superior Court Judge Timika Lane on Thursday morning.

Ashley is part of Governor Shapiro's Advisory Commission on African American Affairs.

One hundred and twenty students from Bartram High School were there to witness the swearing-in.

Then, students took part in a civics engagement program to learn about the importance of the judicial branch.

They got a chance to hear from judges from the court of common pleas, as well as the Philadelphia Municipal Court.
