PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A 19-year-old is dead after teens in a U-Haul van were involved in a shootout with another group outside of a house party Sunday night in North Philadelphia, police said.
Police said the 19-year victim was riding in with four others, who were 16, 17, 18, and 19, when the van arrived at Temple University Hospital with multiple bullet holes.
Officers believe the teens were in the van while involved in a shootout with another group outside of a party on N. 16th St. near Cecil. B Moore Ave.
That's where police said the city's gunshot detection system recorded the sounds of at least 25-30 gunshots at around 11:15 p.m. near that house party.
"The entire house party looked like they were young adults or juveniles, teenagers," said Philadelphia police Inspector D.F. Pace. "As officers attempted to investigate, they encountered numerous young people who were somewhat combative and preventing officers from properly investigating the scene, some of them getting physical with the officers."
Police have not yet released the identity of anyone involved and said others who were involved in altercations with responding officers might be charged.
