Woman shot in chest after rock thrown through home window in North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A gunman shot a woman just outside her home in North Philadelphia.

Investigators say the 35-year-old victim had stepped outside because someone threw a rock through the front living room window, when she was shot in the chest.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. on Monday in the 1200 block of Fairmount Avenue.

She was taken to Jefferson Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Police say a large fight broke out on the street before the shooting.

During the altercation, police say someone from inside the residence fire shots from the property, into the street, after an unknown person threw the rock through the window.

Thats when a man, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, ran toward the door of the property and fired shots into the home, according to police.

A short time later, another unknown man was seen discarding an object into a nearby sewer drain while leaving the property, officials added.

No arrests have been made, and no weapons have been recovered at this time.

The investigation into this shooting is active and ongoing.
