Local heroes honored on Memorial Day at events across the region

ARDMORE, Pa. (WPVI) -- Memorial Day is to honor the men and women who have fought and died for our country.

Across the Philadelphia area, communities are taking time to do just that, with parades and tributes.

One longtime Memorial Day tradition took place in Ardmore.

The borough of Doylestown also held its Memorial Day Parade on Monday morning.

The parade began at Central Bucks High School West and traveled through town, ending near East Court Street.

Hundreds of people lined the parade route, despite the weather.

The Action Cam also saw people sneaking in beach time in Margate, New Jersey.

The wet, heavy sand was perfect to build sandcastles or play some volleyball.

Others opted to find other things to do, including visiting local bars and restaurants.

A few people even braved the rough surf on Sunday before beach patrol called everyone out of the water, a safety precaution given the dangerous conditions.
