When the car is your canvas
At this year's New York International Auto Show, Alpert's freestyle art was all over a custom SUV on the show floor.

NEW YORK -- Don't be shocked by the guy drawing all over six-figure cars at the New York International Auto Show.

Artist and creative director Alex Alpert's iconic work helps brands and their products stand out. He's done projects with the likes of Nike, Red Bull, American Express, Subway, the US Ski Team and Barclays Center. Guests at the last three Auto Shows have seen his creative process in action. He's drawn on a Bronco and McLaren live, and this year he worked his magic on an INEOS Grenadier.

Alpert is inspired by the off-road vehicle's unique design. He says, "It has all these really cool characteristics that make it really rugged. They got the ladder in the back, they got the cage in the back. If you look inside, all the switches and everything like that gives it that utilitarian look."

Alpert receives a lot of double takes at the Javits Center and he loves it when people come in for a closer look. He says that rather than, "freaking people out, like 'Why are you drawing on that perfect car?!' I want them to then look at the story and be like, 'That's actually cool!'"
