GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, New Jersey (WPVI) -- Stockton University student JackEdward Schmick grew up in the foster care system and sometimes found it hard to keep his head up.
After finding the sport of track and field, he has since become a student athlete, a published author, and even collects backpacks to help kids like him.
His organization, 'Bags for Buddies,' collects all kinds of backpacks with the intention that employees in the New Jersey foster care system may provide them to children in need.
He even collects school supplies to provide in some bags.
Schmick recently published a book, Your Biggest Opponent, to tell his story of trials and triumphs.
