Man shot in the arm in West Philadelphia

WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police say someone opened fire in West Philadelphia striking a man in the arm.

It happened around 4:45 p.m. Sunday in the 4900 block of Fairmount Avenue.

The victim was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for treatment. He was said to be conscious and alert during transport.

Authorities say a projectile caused by the gunfire struck a house on the block.

There were people inside the home at the time but they were unharmed.

No word on a motive or any possible suspects.

Police are investigating.
