Animals hurt by the economy

July 20, 2009 A no-kill shelter in Wilmington, Delaware reports a 400-percent increase in the number of pets being abandoned because their owners can no longer care for them.

Faithful Friends Shelter is now offering free pet food to owners in need, as well as low cost veterinary care.

They are also asking for donations to help cover the bills of the pets being surrendered.

How may you help?

Make a cash gift for housing, food and medical care for the shelter animals.

Or, volunteer for either dog or cat care at the shelter with the greatest need for morning shifts or evening shifts.
