A Delaware County pre-school is closed today, after a student was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis.

HAVERTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- A Delaware County preschool will be closed for the rest of the week after a student was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis.

An email went out to parents, but some didn't hear the news until they arrived Monday morning at the Trinity Lutheran Preschool in Havertown.

"I feel for the little boy," one mother told Action News. "I think they said he was in surgery."

The child who was diagnosed attends the school two days a week.

The school was being cleaned on Monday. Parents said their hearts are with the family.

"The school is very clean. I can tell you that," said Lisa Iasanta of Havertown. "They are constantly wiping down even the hand rails. So the school is very clean. My concern is naturally for the child in the hospital."

Action News is told the little boy was last in class last Tuesday.

His brother attends as well. He's not infected, and the family is taking antibiotics.

Action News is told that doctors recommend that all the children in the child's class and the teachers at the school take preventative medication.
