Get a younger, tighter jawline without going under the knife
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Anyone wanting to take a few years off their face can treat their eyes, lips, cheeks, or skin without full plastic surgery, but, the jawline and jowls have long been a challenge.
Fortunately, a new procedure called Profound may change that.
Anne Stone from Moorestown, New Jersey knows that looking her best is key to her success in sales.
"This happens to all of us, everything kind of drifts downward a little bit. And I just started to notice this softening, right around here," she said.
Stone didn't want surgery but wanted more than she got from surface treatments, so her doctor, Norbertus Robben, recommends Profound.
"(It's) a procedure which combines radiofrequency energy with micro needling," he said.
As we age, skin loses 3 key building blocks - collagen, which holds skin cells together, elastin, which controls stretch and tightness and hyaluronic acid, for plumpness.
In Profound, tiny needles go just under the skin.
"And it sends this little current for about 3 or 4 seconds," said Dr. Robben.
The RF energy causes slight damage to collagen, kickstarting rejuvenation. In studies, a one-time 45-minute treatment significant boosted collagen and elastin and eased wrinkles
"That procedure manages to restore all 3 of those building blocks - so that gives you more supple skin, it lifts the skin, it volumizes the skin," said Dr. Robben.
After 2 months, Anne thought her jawline was tighter and smoother and she says the process was easy.
You're red, you're swollen, you get a little bumpy, and it goes away," she said.
"I think this is going to be the new gold standard," said Dr. Robben.
The improvement can continue for up to 3 months and it's supposed to last for 3 to 5 years. It also recently won FDA clearance to be used for cellulite, too.
