WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- An Action News viewer alerted us about a sinkhole that opened up along his block in West Philadelphia.

Viewer Darren Smith called us around 3:00 Sunday afternoon to report what happened.

The sinkhole opened up in front of his home in the 1300 block of North Hobart Street.

"Out the clear blue sky, my hole truck just fell in. I know that's crazy because kids play on the block all the time, anybody could have been on the block at the time and it could have been a lot worse than it was," said Smith.

The Action Cam arrived to find the rear tires of his Cadillac Escalade sinking into the ground.

Water found inside the hole indicates that the sinkhole was caused by a water main issue.

Water department crews were called in to block off the area.

There's been no damage to any surrounding homes or properties.
