PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- More than a half dozen puppies have a new "leash" on life, after they arrived at Philadelphia International Airport on Monday.

The non-profit organization called Island Dog Incorporated rescued the seven dogs in Puerto Rico.

After arriving at the airport, the dogs were then taken to the Humane Society of Atlantic County where they will be evaluated and then put up for adoption.

There are an estimated 200,000 stray dogs roaming the streets in Puerto Rico.

98 percent of those brought to shelters there are euthanized.
