NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police are searching for the driver of the vehicle that struck a 5-year-old girl in North Philadelphia.

The accident happened just before 5:00 p.m. Sunday on the 2200 block of North Lambert Street.

Authorities say an SUV was traveling southbound on Lambert when it struck 5-year-old Karley Green.

They say the SUV then reversed and went northbound, driving off eastbound on Dauphin Street.

Police arrived to find Green non-responsive with a large gash on her head.

The officers rushed her to Temple University Hospital where she is listed in stable condition. She was expected to be released from the hospital on Monday evening.

"She has a mild concussion, nothing too bad, no bleeding on the brain, no skull injuries or anything like that. She's going to be fine," said her mother, Kelly Green.

The vehicle is described as a light colored SUV or Jeep with a possible Pennsylvania tag number of JSG-6673.

The driver is described as a black male, heavy build with a beard.

"We know it was an accident. We just want you to come forward right now, just - I know sometimes we panic when things happen - just come forward right now, she's fine," said her grandmother, Gloria Boyd.
