NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A woman is hospitalized in critical condition after being shot during a home invasion robbery in North Philadelphia.

It happened around 1:30 a.m. Friday in the 3000 block of North 23rd Street.

Police say two masked men burst into a home, announced a robbery and demanded drugs and money.

Pamela Scott was one of four people living inside of the home, along with two men and another woman.

"They just started screaming, 'We know you have money!'" she told Action News.

One of the women ran for the door. That's when one of perpetrators went after her, gun in hand.

"She ran down the steps in an attempt to run out of the front door," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small. "That's when the perpetrators chased her, and one of them shot her in the back."

"I knew right away that she was shot," said Scott. "And then she started screaming, 'Help me! Help! Help me!'"

The victim would later be rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

Meanwhile upstairs, Scott's boyfriend threw a hand weight at a window, shattering the glass, in hopes of getting the neighbors' attention.

The suspects finally ran off. Officers caught up with at least one of them a few blocks away, on 26th Street.

"They stopped two people fitting the description," said Small. "They brought the three witness that were in the house that were not shot to the location, at 26th Street. And the three witnesses did positively identify a 17-year-old male."

Detectives are working to track down the other suspect as the investigation continues.
