3 sought after employee assaulted during armed robbery at Philadelphia store

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police are searching for three armed robbery suspects after a large sum of money was stolen from a store in Philadelphia's Mayfair section Saturday night.

It happened just before 10 p.m. at a store called Emporio Latino Grocery along the 2800 block of Tyson Avenue.

According to police, three employees were leaving the business through the back door when they were approached by three men with guns.

The suspects reportedly forced everyone back into the store. One of the suspects then allegedly assaulted a victim.

Investigators say the suspects made off with the victims' cellphones and an undisclosed amount of money from a safe.

Police did not say exactly how much the suspects got away with but did say it was a substantial amount of cash.

The suspects reportedly fled the scene in a silver sedan.

Authorities have not provided any descriptions of the suspects or the car.

The victims, who police say were all women between 35 and 45 years old, were later able to recover their phones along the 2900 block of Princeton Street.

No arrests have been made and no weapons were recovered at the scene. Police say they are reviewing neighboring surveillance cameras to attempt and locate the suspects.
