Security guard shoots person wielding knife outside nightclub in Germantown
Police say a security guard shot and killed a person who was wielding a knife outside of a nightclub.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police say a security guard shot and killed a person who was wielding a knife outside of a nightclub.

Police responded to a report of a person with a gun in the 5500 block of Germantown Avenue, at Treasures Banquet Hall, around 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

When they arrived, officers found a man unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest, as well as multiple self-inflicted stab wounds, according to officials.

He was taken to Jefferson Einstein Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the security guard acted in self-defense after the man allegedly came after him with a knife.

At this time, police said no arrests have been made.

The investigation is ongoing with the Homicide Unit.
