LOWER PROVIDENCE TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- A brush fire in Lower Providence Township, Montgomery County, caused delays during the evening drive home.
Officials say the flames were reported just before 5 p.m. Thursday near Valley Lane and Bratton Drive.
Chopper 6 was overhead around 6 p.m. as eastbound traffic on Rt. 422 was halted so firefighters could fight the flames. Traffic started moving just after 6:30 p.m.
"Crews actually cut a guardrail to be able to get suppression units and equipment back into the wooded area," said Lower Providence Township Fire Chief James Lentz.
Dry and windy conditions fueled the flames before it was brought under control at 8 p.m.
"We had a rapidly spreading field fire that ultimately burned up about 15 acres on Valley Forge National Park," added Lentz.
Officials say 50 units from Chester and Montgomery County responded.
No injuries were reported.
An official cause has not yet been determined.
