STATEN ISLAND, NY -- Why DIDN'T the chickens cross the road? That's what drivers were asking in Grasmere, Staten Island on Wednesday morning.
A large number of live chickens fowled up the morning commute when they fell off a truck and into a busy intersection.
More than 20 crates of chickens somehow came off the truck at the corner of Hylan Boulevard and Steuben Street at around 7:30 a.m.
The crates were carrying between 150 to 200 chickens.
Most of the chickens were secure in their crates, but some managed to escape in the egg-citment. One bird wandered into the street, but was picked up by a passerby.
All the chickens were taken back to the precinct, where the transportation company, Road Enterprises, is set to pick them up.
