A former middle school principal who pleaded guilty to selling crystal methamphetamine from his office has been granted parole. Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole spokeswoman Lareun Taylor said Wednesday John Acerra will leave prison Feb. 28 and be released to an inpatient drug treatment center until he completes the program.

The 52-year-old Acerra pleaded guilty to selling drugs from his office at Nitschmann Middle School in Bethlehem, where he was arrested in February 2007. He resigned from the school district shortly afterward after 28 years.

Acerra was sentenced to two to four years in prison. The February parole date is his minimum sentence date.
