Jomar stores: no glitz, great prices

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA - April 1, 20009

Jomar's Mark Segal explains the stores don't advertise, or have fancy displays or buildings. They just bring in merchandise and sell it at low prices. On average, about 70% less than department stores.

Just how good are the prices? We found Steve Madden dress shoes with an $89 retail price tag, selling at Jomar for $35.99. An Adidas track jacket with a $45 tag was just $20. A Columbia women's parka with a $200 tag was just $40. And a Coldwater Creek women's blouse, originally $69, was just $7.99.

Segal says the merchandise comes from major manufacturers, department stores, and catalogs. Each of the Jomar stores has different inventory and new items arrive in the stores each day.

And the deals aren't just on clothes. The store also sells bedding, hardware, and toys.

Shoppers like Joyce Smith, of East Mount Airy, says she loves the treasure-hunt feel of shopping at Jomar. Her favorite deal was one she found on fine china.

"It was top-of-the-line. Each set would've been $179. I got each set in a box for $6," she explains proudly.

Among people who sew, Jomar's extensive fabric department is legendary. Where else can you get Ralph Lauren fabric -- which regularly sells for more than $50 a yard -- for just three dollars?

Jomar stores take credit cards and accept returns within 7 days.
