The scene was cleared around 12:40 p.m.
The incident began after a Navy K-9 unit identified something suspicious in a vehicle parked behind the Naval Health Clinic located on the base.
Authorities say, as a precaution, the Montgomery County Bomb Squad was called to the base to assist Navy Security with the investigation.
The vehicle did have military authorization to be on the base. A spokewoman says the dog detected something unusual during a routine, random search.
The spokeswoman went on to say that searches take place not only at the entrances of the base but also in the parking lot.
