Authorities in northeastern Pennsylvania say a 46-year-old Virginia man has been charged in the 1991 murder of a summer camp counselor. Officials say Jeffrey Plishka, of Onley, Virginia, is accused of killing 24-year-old Laura Ronning of St. Petersburg, Fla.

Authorities say Ronning was working at Camp Cayuga in Wayne County when she disappeared on July 27, 1991, while out on a walk. Her partially clad body was found the next day. An autopsy determined she was sexually assaulted and shot in the head.

Officials say Plishka lived near the scene at the time. He is charged with first-, second- and third-degree murder and attempted involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.

Plishka is being held in Accomack County Jail awaiting extradition proceedings. It was immediately clear if he had an attorney Friday.
