More than 30 shots fired in gun battle after owner tracks down stolen vehicle near Art Museum

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police are investigating after several shots were fired behind the Philadelphia Art Museum in the city's Fairmount Park section on Tuesday morning.

Police believe it was related to someone tracking down a stolen car.

It happened along Waterworks Drive at 2:30 a.m.

Police found a black BMW riddled with bullets and more than 30 spent shell casings at the scene.

Authorities told Action News the owner of a stolen Dodge SRT had tracked the vehicle to that area. When he arrived, he allegedly engaged in a gun battle.

The driver of the stolen Dodge fled the scene.

The BMW was left at the scene with damage.

Police do not think anyone was struck by all this gunfire.
