City officials say it'll be best to take public transit, bike, ride share, taxi or walk to the fan fest, instead of driving

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Road closures around Lemon Hill in Fairmount Park are set to begin Tuesday as crews set up for the 39-day FIFA Fan Festival that will draw thousands of daily visitors.
The main street closures to worry about are mostly within Fairmount Park, along Sedgley Drive and Poplar Drive, between Girard Avenue and Kelly Drive.

Those streets are often used as cut throughs or street parking during events. However, starting Tuesday, parking will not be allowed.
The FIFA Fan Festival at Lemon Hill in Fairmount Park could draw 15,000 fans per day, starting in just a couple of weeks.
The event celebrates the international soccer tournament with six of the matches at the Linc.

City officials said it will be one of the largest fan festivals in North America, as World Cup matches are played across the continent.
Lemon Hill will have food and retail vendors, as well as free watch parties with huge screens showing the games.
However, there has been worry about residential parking.
People who live within several blocks of Lemon Hill are required to get special residential parking permits from the Philadelphia Parking Authority to make sure the PPA doesn't towed them from their block.

Residential parking permits will be needed between June 11 and July 19. This includes all of Brewerytown and parts of Strawberry Mansion, Sharswood, Fairmount Park and Spring Garden.
City officials say the goal is to make sure parking isn't taken by people who don't live in the area.

"Parking enforcement will only be during the times of games at the FIFA fan fest," said Philadelphia City Council member Jeffery Young, Jr.
City officials say it'll be best to take public transportation, bike, ride share, taxi or walk to the Ben Franklin Parkway to the fan fest, instead of driving.
