Photographs were then taken of eyelashes at various times after women used lash curlers and applied mascara.
The first thing our researcher looked for was how easy the curler is to use.
Researchers then determined how much lash curl the product produced:
From those 600 some photos, researches determined that the best traditional curler is the Laura Mercier Eyelash Curler, which increased the upturn of the eyelash by an average 149 percent and did it quickly.
The Laura Mercier Curler sells for $16.
Runner up was the E.L.F. Studio Eyelash Curler; it increased lash curl by an average 135 percent, doing almost as good a job as the Mercier at a much cheaper price of only $3! However, the E.L.F. didn't work as fast.
The best heated curler tested by the Good Housekeeping lab is the Sephora Mini Heated Eyelash Curler. It curled lashes about 123 percent, but faster than both the Laura Mercier and the E.L.F and without pinching lids or tugging hairs. It sells for just $12.
