Ruby, a 50-year-old African elephant, died Tuesday at San Andreas Sanctuary.
Ruby lived for 20 years at the /*Los Angeles*/ Zoo.
Animal activists lobbied for years for the zoo to relocate her to the 2,300-acre facility, where she moved in 2007. She lived there with three other elephants.
Ruby was one of the oldest African elephants in captivity.
A necropsy will be performed at the University of California, Davis.
