A central Pennsylvania man will spend the rest of his life in prison for a slaying that police say was the result of a case of mistaken identity.

Thirty-two-year-old Wilfredo Rodriguez Jr. was sentenced to life in prison without parole Wednesday in the April 2008 shooting death of Omar "Big O" Dowling.

Authorities say Rodriguez was seeking revenge for being shot the previous year on the orders of a man nicknamed "O" when he shot Dowling 18 times with an assault rifle on a York street. But police say Dowling was the wrong man.

A jury convicted Rodriguez of first-degree murder last month. He insists he is innocent and asked a judge to provide him new counsel for his appeal.

A second man previously pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence.
