Woman gets 30-to-life for murder of World War II vet

PHILADELPHIA - May 30, 2013

On Thursday a judge sentenced 20-year-old India Spellman to 30 years to life in prison for the shooting death of 87-year-old George Greaves.

Spellman, just 17 at the time of the crime, shot and killed Greaves during a robbery in his West Oak Lane driveway.

Detectives believe Spellman and her accomplice, Von Combs, shot Greaves because he didn't get his money out fast enough.

Graves was a Navy veteran and a survivor of World War II. He had been shot once in the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
