Crime Fighters: $1,200 reward offered in shooting death of Alex Cherry
CEDARBROOK (WPVI) -- A simple chat with a man running for election turned deadly in broad daylight.
His mother is now asking for your help in finding her son's killer.
Christina Cherry says her son, Alex, was a typical 21-year-old.
"He had a lot of friends, wasn't a troublemaker, always laughing. He loved music, loved sports and family," said Christina Cherry, mother.
At 3:30 in the afternoon on April 24, Alex had stopped at a corner store along the 1400 block of Vernon Road in Philadelphia's Cedarbrook neighborhood.
"We were supposed to work the voting polls that Tuesday. He ran into one of the gentlemen who was running in the election for state rep. He was outside, he was very excited talking to him about working the polls.
"A couple seconds later, someone ran up to him and shot him in the head," said Cherry.
Witnesses say the gunman shot Alex twice in the head, went to flee, then turned back around and shot him two more times.
"Where did this come from? Why did this happen? I am broken," said Cherry.
The Citizens Crime Commission is administering a $1,200 reward and the City of Philadelphia is offering up to $21,000 for the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

"If you are man enough to take a life then be man enough to suffer the consequences and turn yourself in because I'm sure you have a parent, and think about how your mother would feel if she lost you," said Cherry.
