All-Star Game: Delco business owner throws out ceremonial first pitch

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Dylan Cease struck out the side in the first inning, combining with 10 relievers on a three-hitter in a show of pitching dominance that led the American League to a 4-0 win over the National League in Tuesday night's All-Star Game in Philadelphia.

Cody Bellinger hit a two-run single and Ben Rice followed with an RBI single in the first against Cristopher Sánchez of the host Philadelphia Phillies.

Miguel Vargas of the Chicago White Sox added an eighth-inning home run off the Los Angeles Dodgers' Justin Wrobleski, who was pitching on his 26th birthday, for the game's only extra-base hit. The AL won for the 18th time in 23 games and holds a 49-45-2 advantage overall.

Singles by Juan Soto in the fourth, Pete Crow-Armstrong in the eighth and Otto Lopez in the ninth were the only hits by the NL, which failed to advance a runner past first.

Pitchers combined for 27 strikeouts, 15 by AL hurlers.

Six players represented the Phillies, including Brandon Marsh, pitchers Jhoan Duran, Cristopher Sánchez and Jesús Luzardo, first baseman Bryce Harper and designated hitter Kyle Schwarber.

Delaware County business owner throws out ceremonial first pitch

Pistilli was selected from 119 applicants to get the grand prize of a $10,000 small business grant and the opportunity to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

This weekend, Pistilli was busy preparing for the big moment.

"I want to throw far enough. I want to make it over the plate," she told Action News before the first pitch on Tuesday.

Pistilli founded her music school with the goal of giving children of all abilities access to music.

Rose Olesen, the manager at the school, said, "It gives access to musical experiences and education to neurodiverse populations, which, unfortunately, the music world and industry is very not inclusive to people who aren't neurotypical."

Pistilli said this grant, plus the awareness generated by the first pitch, is monumental for her business.

"The whole thing is really cool. The grant money is great. But the visibility that will come from this and the amount of people we'll be able to reach."

Final score: AL 4, NL 0

It's over and it's a shutout in two hours, 45 minutes! Tampa Bay Rays RHP Bryan Baker finishes things off in a 4-0 AL win here in Philadelphia. The NL squad managed three singles, and none of them reached second base. This game set the nine-inning All-Star Game record for strikeouts with 27. The previous mark occurred in 2015, with 24 strikeouts. Tuesday's game wasn't quite like Monday's exciting Home Run Derby, but it was still fun. -- Eric Karabell
