PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The massive cleanup effort will continue on Tuesday after a winter storm slammed the Philadelphia region.

Officials have stressed that road conditions may still be dangerous, especially with temperatures plummeting this week.

The next chance of widespread precipitation doesn't come until the weekend, and we will be watching to see whether a nor'easter forms and tracks along the coast or mainly stays out to sea.

Philadelphia courts to be closed Monday due to winter storm

The Courts of Philadelphia will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26 due to the winter storm that is set to hit the area on Sunday.

Philadelphia Courts Will Be Closed Monday - January 26, 2026

The Courts of Philadelphia will be closed on Monday January 26, 2026 due to the pending severe weather conditions. The Court is making this announcement early, as the prediction for a large amount of snow hitting our area on Sunday is all but certain.

All cases -- both in person and virtual -- with the exception of Orphans' Court -- that were scheduled for Monday, January 26, 2026 will be rescheduled. The public can contact the Court at Courts.phila.gov for new dates.

All hearings scheduled in the Orphans' Court Division will proceed as scheduled virtually by ZOOM.

If you have been summoned for Jury Duty, you are EXCUSED and DO NOT NEED TO REPORT on Monday, January 26, 2026.

All critical services are expected to remain operational including: Preliminary Arraignment Court, OJR Bail Acceptance, and filings of Emergency Protection from Abuse Petitions at the Stout Center for Criminal Justice (1301 Filbert Street).

Vehicle restrictions planned for Sunday on Pa. highways

PennDOT said a Tier 4 vehicle restriction is planned for Pennsylvania highways due to the approaching winter storm.

The restriction will go into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday.

A Tier 4 vehicle restriction means no commercial vehicles, school buses, commercial buses, motor coaches, motorcycles, RVs/motorhomes and passenger vehicles towing trailers are permitted.

The restriction impacts all Pennsylvania interstates, the Pennsylvania Turnpike and certain other highways.

Winter Storm Warning issued for the entire Philadelphia region

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the entire Philadelphia region ahead of the system set to bring heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain to the area on Sunday.

The warning goes into effect on Saturday night and will remain in effect until Monday afternoon.

Students and parents should refer to their local school website and look for updates from their local school administration for further details.

Archdiocesan high schools and parochial elementary schools in the suburban counties normally follow the decision of their corresponding local public school district and submit closure status independently.
