Phanatic crashes wedding, surprises groom battling ALS
AUDUBON, N.J. (WPVI) -- The Phillie Phanatic was a welcome wedding crasher who surprised some newlyweds on a joyful day - amid their heartbreaking struggle.
Richard Myers of Haddon Township, New Jersey, is a lifelong baseball fan who was the community's little league president, as well as an umpire, for more than two decades.
Sadly, he was diagnosed with ALS - also known as Lou Gehrig's disease - in March, and it has spread rapidly.
But while he now has to use a wheelchair to get around and an iPad to speak, he decided to live in the now and marry his girlfriend of 13 years, Kimberly.
The wedding and reception were held Saturday at The Kove in Audubon. But what they didn't know is that the Phillies had sent a special guest.
The Action Cam was there as the Phanatic burst into the room and gave Richard a big hug.
He was right at home in the base-ball themed wedding - complete with the happy couple in baseball jerseys!
Never one to miss a party, the Phanatic even hit the dance floor, and posed with wedding guests for a team photo!
