SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. (WPVI) -- A brand new roller coaster on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights, N.J. broke down while the riders were still on board.

Viewer video shows passengers stuck on the Hydrus, just as their car was about begin its ascent.

It happened Wednesday night.

Crews were able to reach the riders from a landing and pull them to safety.

Governor Chris Christie cut the ribbon on the new ride, located on Casino Pier, back in May.

The Hydrus replaced Seaside Heights' landmark Jet Star roller coaster, which fell into the ocean during Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
