A gas leak caused the evacuation of about 400 students at the Harlan School in Wilmington, Delaware Wednesday morning.
The fire department was called around 9:30 a.m. to the report of a gas leak at the school located at North Jefferson and West 35th Streets.
A spokesman from the Brandywine District says when the staff arrived they noticed an odor of gas.
The students then were evacuated and redirected to the P.S. DuPont school while the fire department cleared the scene.
Wilmington City firefighters discovered that the leak began in the basement area.
Fire suppression companies began air sampling and ventilating the school.
As a result of the leak, Harlan Elementary School closed for the day.
There were no reports of any injuries.
