SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Officials from Philadelphia Gas Works say the gas release from the plant on Tuesday morning was a controlled release.
The release was conducted around 11:30 a.m.
Those officials say the release happens occasionally to maintain the pressure in their plant.
Everything went as planned, officials said, and the plant is back to normal.
There were no evacuations or injuries. The Passyunk Avenue Bridge was briefly closed as a safety precaution, but it has since reopened.
PGW officials say residents in South Philly could notice the odor of natural gas.
